Thailand
30th September - 13th October 2006
Bangkok - Ko Samui - Khao Sok National Park - Koh Panyi - Railey - Bangkok
The time had finally arrived to take the trip I had won last year and we were excited; two weeks in beautiful Thailand - for free!
"Was it great?" I hear you all ask...no, not really. I will not go on and on about what made this trip so disappointing...even though, believe me, I could....but I will say that it was largely due to having the worst tour leader possible. As someone who would not normally go on a tour, and as someone who knew what Thailand had to offer, the quality of the tour leader was either going to make or break the experience for me, and unfortunately, it broke.
It was not all bad, we got to see some of the south of Thailand, the weather was warm, the food was amazing, we got to travel in every local transport that Thailand has to offer, we saw some monkeys, and we have confirmed our ideas on what we want, and don't want, out of a holiday.

Our overnight train to and from the south of Thailand.

The back of the songtheaws which we were to see quite a lot of.
After the tour, we had arranged three extra nights in Bangkok and treated ourselves to a nice hotel (thankgod) and it did not disappoint. We stayed at The Davis Bangkok in Sukhumvit and it was great (highly recommended). We spent two days shopping and experiencing Bangkok and the tour soon became a distant memory.
No more tours for us, but I'll take a trip to Thailand anyday.

Railey beach - gorgeous.

Hey, the dog's got a mohawk! - weird and wonderful.
